Surface Analysis and Metallography Lab Technician

Brief Posting Description
We have an immediate opening for a Metallography and Surface Analysis Laboratory technician for Sensata internal analytical laboratories located in Attleboro, MA. In this role, the candidate will work with the lab supervisor, internal engineering customers and other team members in a dynamic environment to help solve technical problems on a wide variety of highly engineered sensors and controls products. They will support research and development, failure analysis and manufacturing operations.

  • Primary responsibilities include:
    • Operating a Scanning Electron Microscope with EDX detector
      • Failure analysis
      • Fracture mechanisms
      • Corrosion
      • Surface contamination
      • Material identification
    • Inspection and documentation using optical microscopy
    • Sample preparation for a wide variety of electronic components
    • Metallographic analyses
      • Sample preparation using cold and hot mount techniques
      • Dicing, grinding and polishing
      • Optical imaging
      • Grain size measurements
      • Joining method evaluations
    • Other responsibilities include:
      • Micro-hardness measurements
      • Rockwell hardness measurements
      • Plating thickness measurements with XRF and optical microscopy
    Job Requirements
    Candidate must be a US citizen
    Minimum of an Associate degree in a technical field
    2-5 years of work experience in a related field

    • Broad knowledge of materials (metals, polymers, ceramics, glass) and chemistry a plus
    • Knowledge/Experience with manufacturing processes such as SMT, thick film processing, MEMS, wire-bonding, joining methods, etc. is a plus

    The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
